Colorado State University’s “2009 Legends of Ranching Performance Horse Sale” was held on April 25 in Fort Collins, Colorado, at the B. W. Pickett Equine Center, home to the Equine Sciences undergraduate program. Students dedicate 2 semesters of time and effort to the sale. The student-run project involves those enrolled in sales management, equine event management, and horse training.
CSU’s catalog is researched, designed, and produced by the equine sales management students. Students in the training class start and fit the 2 & 3 year old geldings and fillies from some of the country’s most famous ranch breeding programs.
High selling horse was a 2006 red roan gelding, Hey I’m Cashin In, consigned by Cowan Select Horses, LLC. The AQHA Incentive Fund nominated grandson of Smart Chic Olena and Boomernic brought $19,500. A well-trained, experienced three-year-old, he had been ridden in the mountains and used in day-to-day activities around the ranch.
Second highest seller was Uno Chex Hancock, a 2001 bay gelding consigned by Crofoot Ranches, LLP. This well-broke, all-around horse brought $16,000. The top 5 horses averaged $13,540.
Sixty-one horses sold for a total of $280,050, with the average price being $4,591.
