2009 World Championship Show Sale

The AQHA‘s premier sale, the two-day World Championship Show Sale, was held November 14th & 15th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Some of the best bred performance, halter and working horses were assembled here. Champions, mares bred to champions, and future champions were presented to the buying public. Some had just been shown at the World Championship Show and came with new show placings and points.

The sale was broken down into 3 different sessions. Sessions 1 & 2 were held on November 14th and Session 3 on November 15th. Session 1 featured working horses, cow horses and roping horses. Session 2 was halter horses. Session 3 featured Western Pleasure, English and All-Around horses.

The top seller of the Working and Cow Horse session was Genuine As Diamonds, a 1992 palomino stallion, who brought $14,500. A full brother to the great Shining Spark, he had 119 AQHA points and earnings of $4,005. A Congress Open Heeling Champion and an AQHA High Point Heeling Champion, he has sired 256 foals, with 14 performers.

The top seller of the Performance session was Dunit On The Range, a 2008 red roan colt, who brought $41,500. By the stallion Openrange, he was shown only once at the Ontario Breeders Futurity and ended up the unanimous winner in the longe line and yearling colts.

The Halter session and over-all top seller was Rock Starlet, a 2004 sorrel mare, who brought $50,500. A supplement addition, she was by Hear the Cheers out of the mare Miss Coolightful. Fitted up and in impeccable condition, she had a certain “look at me” air that definitely caught your attention.

Only 83 of the 364 horses did not sell. The 281 that did totaled $1,492,300, giving the sale a 77% sale percentage. The average price was $5,311. The top 5 sellers totaled $213,000, for an average of $42,600. The increases in the average price and gross sales indicates that stability is returning to the market following the decreases in all segments of the horse industry. Let’s hope that 2010 will bring a stronger market and a healthier industry.
