The 10th Annual Production Sale was held on April 23rd at the Titus County Fairgrounds in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. The sale was to be held after the 7th Annual Barrel Futurity, with seventy-three performance-bred horses of all ages to be sold. All these horses were bred to do anything from roping to barrel racing, or whatever else the purchaser desired.

The high selling horse was a 2005 grey mare, Shesa Gray Dumplin, who brought $19,500. She was sired by Blue Tracker and out of LZJ Buck Dumplin 101. This powerful mare was currently running barrels and placing in the top of the 2D tier, although they said she was getting better with every run, which could put her in the 1D. She also did pole bending and was going nicely in calf roping.

Seventy-two horses sold for a total of $191,250. The average sale price was $2,656 and the sale percentage was 99%. The Top 5 horses brought $54,800, for an average of $10,960.

2011 Pitzer Ranch Spring Sale

On Saturday, April 23rd, the 2011 Pitzer Ranch Spring Sale was held at the ranch 3 miles northwest of Ericson, Nebraska. The Pitzer Ranch and their guest consignors sold a total of 257 horses, grossing $908,600. The average sale price was $3,535.

The top selling horse of the sale was OLF Cash Bar King, a 2006 palomino stallion, who brought $20,000. His sire is ER Hot Chex, an AQHA Performance Champion with 620 performance points and Superiors in Calf Roping, Reining and Heeling. His dam, Continental Playgirl, is a daughter of Grand Stripper and dam of 11 foals (through 2008). He is an NRCHA money earner, has AQHA points in Tie-Down Roping and Heeling, was Champion Junior Cow Horse, and Reserve Champion Junior Heeler & Junior Break-Away at the Palomino World Show. He is qualified for the AQHA World Show in Tie-Down Roping and Heeling.

The Top 5 sellers brought $82,500, for an average sale price of $16,500.

Broodmares: 33 sold for $69,275, with an average price of $2,099. Top seller was Paradox Playgirl ($6,900), a 2000 sorrel daughter of Freckles Playboy, in foal to Catsanova Cowboy.

Broke Geldings 4 years & older: 113 sold for $626,050, with an average price of $5,540. Top seller was Smokin Dakota Jack ($18,000), a 2004 buckskin son of Smokin Jess Tivio.

Started Geldings 3 years & younger: 12 sold for $25,900, with an average price of $2,158. Top seller was Bea Classy Two Eyed ($3,200), a 2009 buckskin son of Two Eyed Red Buck.

Broke Mares 4 years & older: 34 sold for $11,850, with an average price of $3,290. Top seller was Cats Magic Streak ($8,600), a 2007 bay roan daughter of A Streak Of Fling and out of Cats Magic Maggie, a daughter of High Brow Cat.

Started Mares 3 years & younger: 20 sold for $23,675, with an average price of $1,184. Top seller was Over Heatin ($2,500), a 2008 dun daughter of Hollywood Heat.

Ponies: 3 sold for $8,500, with an average price of $2,833. Top seller was Rio ($3,500), a 2003 sorrel gelding.

Breeding Age Stallions: 14 sold for $113,600, with an average price of $8,114. Top seller was OLF Cash Bar King ($20,000), a 2006 palomino.

Yearling Fillies: 21 sold for $17,050, with an average price of $812. Top seller was Two Eyed Hanna ($3,200), a 2010 buckskin daughter of Two Eyed Red Buck and out of Cross Over Hannah, World Champion in Heading & Heeling and a daughter of Major Bonanza.

Yearling studs: 7 sold for $12,700, with an average price of $1,814. Top seller was Billy Jack Red Buck ($4,500), a 2010 son of Two Eyed Little Buck.

NCHA Super Stakes Sale

The 2011 NCHA Super Stakes Sale was held April 16th at the Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Ninety-three head ran through the ring, with 75 selling and 18 not reaching their reserve price.

The top selling horse was Somekinda Shiney, a 2010 red roan filly, who brought $60,000. Her sire is Metallic Cat, a son of High Brow Cat. Metallic Cat is an NCHA Horse of the Year and in the NCHA Hall of Fame with earnings of $637,711, whose first foals are yearlings of 2011. Her dam is Some Kinda Memories, Smart Little Lena’s fifth highest money earner, winner of the NCHA Open Futurity and earning $378,000. She has produced foals earning $327,000.

The 75 head that sold netted $922,500, for an average price of $12,300 and a sale percentage of 81%. The Top 5 horses brought $209,000, for an average of $41,800. The 2001 sale had a 57% increase in average price over the 2010 sale, as well as a 22% percent increase in completed sales.

Oleen Brothers Quarter Horse Production Sale 2011

The Oleen Brothers Quarter Horse Production Sale was held on March 28th in Dwight, Kansas. Twenty-five head of foundation bred Quarter Horses, consisting of 20 yearlings, 4 started young horses, and 1 broke horse, were sent through the ring. There were 8 no-sales and 17 horses sold.

The high selling horse was JA Frosty Nighttrain, a 2007 sorrel gelding, who brought $3,300. His sire, Wily Frosty Wood, is a son of Wilywood, a top sire of arena and rodeo horses. His dam, Tequita Dolly May, is a granddaughter of Great Pine, an AQHA Champion and a 1995 Inductee into the National Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame. JA Frosty Nighttrain had been roped off in the pasture.

The 17 horses grossed $14,330, with an average price of $843 and a sale percentage of 68%. The Top 5 horses brought $9,900, for an average of $1,980.
