Pitzer Ranch Fall Sale

For those looking for the best in Pitzer Ranch genetics, the Pitzer Ranch Fall Sale, held September 4, 5, & 6, did not disappoint. September 4th, the first day, featured performance and ranch horses. The second day, September 5th, was the ranch’s production sale offering up weanlings, broodmares, yearlings, and stallions. Day 3, September 6th, was the Pitzer Ranch Guest Production Sale offering a wide variety of horses. Six hundred and fifty-four total head were sold, with the average price being $2,143.

Below is a breakdown of the sale:

Broodmares – 103 broodmares were sold, averaging $1,281. Watch Two Eyed Susie, a 2001 palomino, was the highest seller at $6,600. Out of Two Eyed Red Buck and a daughter of Watch Joe Jack, she is in foal to Bolmania for a 2010 foal. Boldmania is a Superior performance horse with points in halter, calf roping, heeling and heading.

Two & three year old started geldings – 17 young geldings were sold, averaging $2,768. Custom Tooled, a 2006 dun, was high seller at $6,000. Well broke, having lots of cattle roped off him, he has the potential to be a quality heel horse.

Four year old & older geldings – 131 older geldings sold, averaging $4,435. Pippers On, a 2001 grey, topped the geldings at $18,000. A head or heel horse, he had been hauled and won on both ends.

Two & three year old mares – 26 young mares were sold, averaging $1,799. Joes Last Song, a 2006 buckskin, topped out at $6,000. By Mr. Joes Song, she’s out of the Smokeys Gray mare, Smokin Snow Bunny.

Four year old & older broke mares – 24 broke mares sold, averaging $3,546. Reds Diamond Shine, a 2004 sorrel, was high seller, bringing $18,100. She’s sired by 2-time World Champion Zans Diamond Shine out the a good producing Harlan Baron Red daughter.

Two year old & older breeding stallions – 20 stallions sold, averaging $5,168. Sevens Twister, a 2004 sorrel, topped the stallions, bringing $11,500. A son of Mr. Joes Song, he has about 30 AQHA points and is qualified for the 2009 World Show in Junior Heeling.

Weanling fillies – 125 fillies sold, averaging $1,021. Two Eyed Lady Red, a 2009 buckskin, was the topper at $$3,800. She’s by Two Eyed Red Buck,out of Ladys Red Hat, a daughter of Mr. Baron Red.

Weanling stallions – 177 stallions sold, averaging $1,105. Silky Eyed Colonel, a 2009 buckskin, was high selling weanling stallion, bringing $$9,000. A son of Two Eyed Red Buck, he’s out of a Colonel Freckles/Silky Fox granddaughter.

Yearling mares – 8 yearling mares sold, averaging $811. Two Id Shining Spark, a 2008 bay, was high seller at $1,100. A daughter of Two Eyed Oakie Jack, she’s out of an own daughter of Shining Spark, World Champion in Reining.

Yearling stallions – 19 yearling stallions sold, averaging $1,814. Sunfrosts Baron Red, a 2008 red roan/bay, topped the stallions at $3,300. A son of Two Eyed Red Buck, he’s out of a granddaughter of Sun Frost.

One yearling gelding, a 2008 red dun named Roosters Red Hombre, sold for $900.

Also included in the sale were 2 ponies, M&M and KS’S Power Puff Dash, which sold for $950 and $2,700.

2009 Myers Performance Horse Prospect Sale

Some of the hottest performance bloodlines around, such as Frenchmans Guy, Hot Colours, and others, were offered August 22 at the Myers Performance Horse Prospect Sale in Spearfish, South Dakota. Myers Training Stables, along with some guest consignors, offered 55 of some the best bred 2 & 3 year olds, yearlings, weanlings and broodmares to buyers looking for rodeo, barrel, and youth prospects.

Guy’s Famous Girl, the first offering of the sale, brought the top price. Sold for $68,000, this pretty 2007 grey mare is the daughter of Frenchmans Guy out of the Dash Ta Fame mare, Disarray. Disarray, who has a Speed Index of  89, has race earnings of $17,870. This filly just screams “barrel horse”.

Out of the 55 horses selling, 47 went to new homes. The top 5 sellers averaged $42,200, with the sale average being $14,561. With 85% of the horses selling, well-bred performance prospects seem to be a hot ticket item.

Southeast Summer Sale

Held in conjunction with the PAS Cutting Series, the Southeast Summer Sale, held August 8, offered a variety of cutting, performance, and ranch horses. Two hundred and seventeen horses were being offered for sale with 148 going to new homes.

Shaka Red Feather, a daughter of Cats Red Feather, topped the sale at $15,500. A 2005 sorrel AQHA mare, she is a proven winner and has $16,218.60 in NCHA earnings.

The top 5 sellers grossed $56,500 for an average sale price of $11,300.

The 148 horses that sold grossed $347,650. The average price was $2,349, with 68% of the horses sold.

American Hunter Pony Classic

“Got Ponies?” was what the American Hunter Pony Classic was all about. Held in conjunction with the United States Equestrian Federation National Pony Hunter Finals, the sale was a good place for pony sellers and pony buyers to connect. The sale offered 113 small, medium and large ponies to potential pony owners.

Lasting Impression, a 2003 chestnut crossbred Welsh gelding, topped the sale at $58,000. He was Champion in the Large Green at Penn State, and qualified for the 2009 Pony Finals in Greens.

The top 5 selling ponies averaged $36,680.

The 63 ponies that sold grossed $703,400, for an average price of $11,165. The percentage of ponies that sold was 56%.

Virginia Sumer Sport Horse Sale

The Virginia Summer Sport Horse Sale, July 11th at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, was held in conjunction with the Dressage at Lexington’s 20th Anniversary show. Made horses, prospects, broodmares and stallions were offered to the discriminating buyers.

The sale feature was Davignport, a 1994 bay stallion, who brought $68,500. An Elite Hanoverian Stallion, Davignport is consistently a USEF Leading Sire of Dressage Horses and Dressage Breeding. The USDF ranked Davignport 4th out of 127 stallions based on the success of his offspring in dressage, which included European stallions producing dressage horses in the U.S.

The top 5 horses, 3 Hanoverians, a Westphalian, and an Oldenburg, averaged $27,800.

With 33 of the 55 horses presented selling for $224,600, the average price was $6,806. The percentage sold was 60%.

Eastern Summer Sale


The first weekend in June was one busy weekend with three big events. The Eastern Summer Sale was held June 6 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, in conjunction with the 2006 PAS Sales Stakes and the Southern States Showdown.

Figgy Puddin, a 2000 bay AQHA gelding, was the sale topper at $16,200. A son of the great Zips Chocolate Chip out of Dynamic Girl, he was an AQHA Open, Amateur, Youth & Novice point earner.

The top 5 sellers averaged $8,720.

One hundred and twenty horses went through the ring with 80 going to new homes. The average price was $1,879.
