2014 Land Of Lincoln Performance Horse Sale

This sale Is one of my favorites because it is in my neck of the woods. It was held on Saturday, March 15, at the Heart of Illinois Arena in Peoria. The preview was from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with the sale starting at 2:30.

The weather was pretty decent for March, and there were a fair number of people attending. They had a large screen tv set up so that as each performance horse came into the arena, the video of it taken at the preview could be seen by the buyers. Whether running barrels, working cattle, or even bulldogging, the horse’s talent was on display as the horse went through the ring.

The high selling horse was Romeos Gone Wild, a 2012 AQHA bay roan gelding, who brought $5300. He was sired by Wild Haired Cat, an NCHA money earner, who is a son of HIgh Brow Cat. His dam is Juliet 104, who is a daughter of Bet On Me 498, a Reserve World Champion, NCHA money earner, and World Show Qualifier. He was broke, colorful, and ready to go in any direction the buyer chose.

Out of the 48 horses that showed up, 32 were sold and 16 were no-saled, a 67% sale percentage. They brought a total of $71,825, with an average sale price of $2,245. The top 6 (because 2 sold for the same price of $4000) sold for a total of $26,150, with $4,358 being the average price.

On the whole it was a pretty good sale, especially for the time of year. The quality of horses that showed up was excellent and some of the horses that sold should probably have brought more.

I even got in on the action and brought home a 2013 solid palomino APHA filly by an AQHA stallion, WLZ King Fritz Olena, and out of a solid APHA mare, Gold N Money. She was brought o a breeder’s certificate, and hasn’t gotten a name yet. This is what she looks like:

She’s fully shed out now, and when she gets a name, I’ll post a more recent picture.
