The 2012 National Clydesdale Sale  was held April 28 at a new venue this year, the Michiana Event Center in Howe, Indiana. One hundred and thirty-two Clydesdales, along with 13 Shires and 1 Gypsy Vanner, were sent through the ring. In the end, 126 horses were sold.

The sale breakdown:

  • 29 Clydesdale geldings selling for a total of $91,500, averaging $3,155
  • 62 Clydesdale mares selling for a total of $263,250, averaging $3,810
  • 26 Clydesdale stallions selling for a total of $21,400, averaging $3,023
  • 8 Shires  selling for $21,400, averaging $2,625
  • 1 Gypsy Vanner selling for $1,200

The high selling horse was Freedom Majestic Liverpool, a 2008 stallion, who sold for $20,000. He was sired by Freedom Royal Majestic, and out of Freedom Eaton Annabelle by Hillmoor Fusilier.

The 126 horses sold for $428,960, with an average price of $3,404 and a sale percentage of 86%. The Top 5 sellers (all Clydesdales) brought $80,250, averaging $16,050.

At the end of the 2-day National Clydesdale Sale, 96 geldings, stallions, and mares passed through the sale ring, with a total of 80 horses being sold. Sixteen horses were no-saled.

The highest selling horse was the mare Otter Creek Jubilee Kate, who brought $27,500.

The 80 head that sold netted $275,150. The average sale price was $3,439 and the sale percentage for the entire sale was 83%. The overall Top 5 sellers brought $66,500, for an average of $13,300.

2011 National Clydesdale Sale – Day 2

April 30th started off with the sale of the stallions. Seventeen stallions were sent through the ring, with 14 of them selling.

The high selling stallion was Ogdensburg Ax’s Utah, a 2008 bay, who sold for $10,500. By Thistle Ridge Av’s Axel and out of Elshmarg Lady Anne, he has been shown successfully since he was a foal. He was 2010 Grand Champion Stallion at the Lindsay Fair in Ontario, Canada. He could go either way, as a herd sire or a show gelding.

The 14 stallions totaled $46,500. The average price was $3,321 and the sale percentage was 82%. The Top 5 sellers brought $30,500, for an average of $6,100.

After the stallions finished selling, in came the mares. Forty-five mares trotted through, with 42 of them selling.

The high selling mare was Otter Creek Jubilee Kate, a 2005 bay, who sold for $27,500, making her the highest selling horse in the entire sale. By Boat Legend Jubilee and out of Westerdale Sweet Helen, she is a great driving mare and was 1st Honorable Mention in the 2008 All-American program. She has raised some nice foals and is in foal for 2012.

The 42 mares totaled $156,650. The average price was $3,783 and the sale percentage was 93%. The Top 6 sellers (2 mares sold for the same price) brought $58,700, for an average of $9,783.

2011 National Clydesdale Sale

The ground was shaking again in Springfield, Illinois, on April 29th and 30th. The big horses were back for the 2011 National Clydesdale Sale held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The 2-day sale began on Friday the 29th with the mandatory preview of the sale horses, which was immediately followed by the sale of the geldings. The following day was the sale of the stallions and the mares.

Thirty four geldings thundered through the ring, with 24 of them being sold. The high selling gelding was Drake’s Armadah, a 2008 bay, that brought $15,000. By Timberline Major and out of Thread River Norma Jean, Drake has beautiful movement and is broke to drive.

The 24 geldings that sold brought a total of $71,950. The average sale price was $2,998 and the sale percentage was 71%.  The Top 5 sellers brought $34,400, for an average of $6,880.

2010 National Clydesdale Sale – Recap

At the end of Day 2 of the National Cydesdale Sale, a total of 148 horses had trotted through the sale ring. The high seller of the entire sale was Ozark’s Royal Marina, a black 2007 mare, who sold for $20,000.

The Top 6 sellers of the sale (4 mares, 1stallion, & 1 gelding) brought $82,000, with an average price of $13,667.

A total of 115 lots sold grossing $366,025. The average price was $3,183 and 78% of the horses sold.

2010 National Clydesdale Sale – April 24, Stallions, Futurity Horses, Mares & Foals

Day 2 of the National Clydesdale Sale was devoted to stallions, futurity yearlings, and mares & foals. One hundred and eight horses went through the ring, beginning with the stallions.

Forty-two stallions of all ages showed up with 30 head selling. High selling stallion was Hidden Brook Prestigious Legacy, a dark bay 2005 stallion, who brought $15,000. The 30 stallions that sold grossed $76,300 for an average sale price of $2,543 and a sale percentage of 71%. The Top 5 sellers brought $41,500, with an average of $8,300.

Two yearling Futurity horses went through the ring, with 1 selling for $4,250.

Seventy-three mares (a few with foals at side) were there with 58 of them selling. High selling mare was Ozark’s Royal Marina, a beautiful black 2007 mare, who sold for $20,000. The 58 that sold brought a total of $200,375 and averaged $3,455, with a sale percentage of $79%. The Top 5 sellers brought $66,500, for an average of $13,300.

2010 National Clydesdale Sale – April 23, Geldings

The ground at the State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Illinois was shaking April 22, 23, and 24 when the Clydesdales arrived for the 2010 National Clydesdale Sale. The sale, combined with the Clydesdale Breeders Futurity Cup classes, featured some of the finest horses in the country. The National Sale Show was held on the 22nd, and immediately after that, the hitching and riding of the sale horses was done.

On Friday the 23rd, after the tack sale, the Gelding Sale was held. Thirty-one geldings were led in and 26 of them sold. The high selling gelding was Wooden Spoke Spy, a bay 2000 gelding, who brought $10,000. This beautiful gelding had been used on the wheel in a 2, 4, 6, 8, and unicorn hitch. He was also used in the famous annual all-horse drawn Lebanon Christmas parade that had over 80,000 spectators attending.

The 26 lots that sold grossed $85,100 with an average sale price of $3,273 and a sale percentage of 84%. The Top 5 sellers brought $34,200, with an average of $6,840.
